Notes

At the first live performances of the song for a live audience, at the Purgatory in Brooklyn, N.Y., on June 7th, 2023,, Grace gave some background to the song:

This song I actually started writing about a subway sandwich. So, I tried to run away, because I was a very, very edgy pre-teen. … I’m still really … So, I tried to run away and had like a knife – like a steak knife from your kitchen drawer, and I was like – ohh God, I am never going home, my life sucks. And I went like three hours, and I went to Subway, and I spent all the money that I had there. I didn’t make it 24 hours. But I was reminiscing about that memory, and I was thinking about Subway, and somehow it became this very vulnerable song. I really hope you like it. A lot of people don’t like it . It’s been a little controversial behind the scenes. But it’s close to my heart.

Lyrics

"[Verse 1]
Ask me what I'm thinking and I'll say that I don't lie
Tired and heavy eyes, need a breath outside
Maybe I'm too silent like I don't even try
But you know I have my ways
You know I have my ways

[Chorus]
I've been walking down on the highway
Thinking 'bout who can hear me
Looking around backwards and sideways
Thinking about if you were coming
And I've been walking down on a dead end
Sun fading, clouds start moving
But I keep walking down on the highway
And you'll never find me

[Verse 2]
Took 'bout forty dollars, out your purse the right before
I unlock the door, I unlock the door
Running from the memory, I was running from the hurt
But it never seems to work, it never seems to work

[Chorus]
I've been walking down on the highway
Thinking 'bout who can hear me
Looking around backwards and sideways
Thinking about if you were coming
And I've been walking down on a dead end
Sun fading, clouds start moving
But I keep walking down on the highway
And you'll never find me
And you'll never find me

[Bridge]
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Oooh
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
Oooh

[Outro]
And you'll never find me
You'll never find me
You'll never find me
No, you'll never find me
You'll never find me
You'll never find me"
